trivago Awards 2017: Best Hotels in the North East Announced

Hotel search website have released the results of their annual trivago Awards, using over 175 million aggregated hotel reviews and semantic analysis to determine the best-rated hotels in regions across the UK. This year the best hotels have been awarded across eight different categories: 3-star, 4-star, 5-star, B&Bs, Value for Money, Breakfast, Guest Service and Guest Rooms.

By analysing reviews aggregated from different sources across the web, trivago aims to award hotels on a basis which is accurate, comprehensive and impartial. Johannes Thomas, Managing Director at trivago, comments “We aggregate and analyse more than 175 million hotel reviews from websites all over the world. Motel One Newcastle is the best 3-star hotel in the North East, with an aggregated rating of 89.22.

Staybridge Suites Newcastle, which was placed #3 in the region in last year’s awards, is awarded the best in two categories this year: best 4-star hotel and best accommodation for guest rooms, with rating scores of 92.18 and 91.90, respectively.

The best 5-star hotel, with a rating of 90.48, is Seaham Hall and Serenity Spa, which was placed #8 in the North East in last year’s awards.

The best B&B is Bridge House in Haltwhistle, with a rating of 93.45. The best value accommodation is Redfoot Lea in Alnwick, a B&B with a semantic value score of 90.62.

The best breakfast can be found at Durham Marriott Hotel Royal County, with a score of 78.33. Finally, the best accommodation for service is Homelands Guest House in Barnard Castle, with a score of 93.76.

About the data
The data for the B&B, 3-star, 4-star and 5-star categories is taken from the trivago Rating Index (tRI), which aggregates over 175 million hotel reviews globally. An algorithm is used to produce a 100-point index score, which is updated daily to produce clear, transparent and unbiased results. The data for the Best Value, Breakfast, Service and Guest Room categories was taken from a semantic analysis, in which guests’ online reviews were analysed to identify which hotels scored highest in these categories. For the trivago Awards, hotels with sufficient availability and at least 20 reviews were considered.
